Folkolor Festival of Montréjeau : A trip inside the hearth of Music and Culture !

The troupe is not lacking in good-natured originality. The dancers always seem to be having fun, even from the heights of their stilts. A show rich in interest and discovery, a symbol of an eternal Africa, that of griots, drums, and festive costumes.

Here the violent echoes of the "Yoruba" drums and "Mandingo marimbulas" mingle. Then the haunting melodies of the "Bantu" polyphonies take flight, intended to awaken the spirits of the waters and the forest. From its multiple origins, it has retained an immoderate taste for carnivals and popular dances.

EL Gaitero is the Asturian bagpipe band that has participated the most times in the prestigious Interceltic Festival of Lorient. Trebeyu's goal is to disseminate this popular culture, through a joyful and colorful performance that respects the original form of what has been collected through fieldwork.

Ensemble “HandsPercussion SDN BHD”

The show drew its inspiration and rich repertoire from the incredible diversity of the islands and customs that make up Malaysia. Its program covers all the percussion instruments from every state in the federation. It combines the culture of the hill tribes, who live in the lush forest country where the spirits of the deceased rest, with the dances and music of the villages that share their lives between rice, tea, and the sea.

Official ambassadors of Montenegrin culture, they share the destiny of this young republic and strive to make it known throughout the world. "Tekstilac" invites us on a journey into the soul of the Balkans. Mysterious and subtle, its folklore required high-level artistic training to reveal its secrets. You will be dazzled by the astonishing harmony of a show rarely presented in Europe until now.

Since time immemorial, human groups have engaged in rituals in an attempt to communicate with the gods and thank them for the bounty of nature. With the "Barinas" company, rediscover the cycle of time and the memories of the people of this country. These rites and celebrations combine in a prodigious way: songs, offerings, prayers, and clothing, giving them a special appeal.

The Bergers du Seignanx, made up of around fifty dancers on the ground and stilt walkers from the Landes region, continue today these traditions of dancing on stilts and sporting challenges in various forms such as stilt races, marathons, the Tour du Seignanx on stilts, etc.

The International Montréjeau Folklore Festival "FOLKOLOR" was created in the 50’s to celebrate friendship between nations. In 2025 the Festival will mark its 65rd edition.

This event widely known as "Folk Arts and Traditions" promoter every year gathers about twelwe groups with more than 250 dancers from all around the world for performing on different stages as well as in the streets of Montréjeau. The town for a couple of days becomes the world’s capital city of youth and friendship between nations.

During the festival there are many activities around the theme of Folk Arts and Traditions. This festival is considered among the best along with prestigious festivals as Confolens, Amélie-les-Bains, Gannat, Montignac, Montoire, etc ...

Festival is not a « commercial » event. It is organized and coordinated by a group of volunteers under the leadership of the City of Montréjeau and its Festival Committee, and with participation of local associations such as "les Troubadours du Mont Royal", "l’Amicale des Troubadours",…and all the good will of individuals.

 

WHAT’S "FOLKOLOR"

 

FOLKOLOR is a festival which for over than 65 years has promoted the encounter of cultures and nations from around the world.

FOLKOLOR that is also: 

. 4 days of quality performances throughout the day. 

. Lots of outdoor performances which are totally free of charge. 

. More than 10 internationals groups .... 

. Nearly 250 high-level dancers and musicians. 

. Thousands of spectators

. "The Festival Off" which offers activities, workshops and cultural exhibitions. 

. A "festival village" designed to discover the products displayed by groups.

From one of the emblematic most beautifull village of France 'Saint Bertand de Comminges' and it's unique Cathedral, to the thermal spa in Bagnères de Luchon, passing by the wonderfull walk in the Pyrénée, The Bastide of Montréjeau and her Lake welcome you for a very pleasant stay !
